Top of the Heap is a twist that appeared in Survivor: Puerto Rico. It initiated a pre-season vote, in which each tribe selected someone to be given a special power in the game, which they could trade for a publicly-known Hidden Immunity Idol if they wished to do so.

Overview

Before the game began, all castaways were instructed to send a vote in for one of their fellow tribe members to receive a special power. The castaway from each tribe with the most votes were they given the option to either keep the power they were voted to be given, or trade it in for a hidden immunity idol, the existence of which would be known to all. The special power remains a secret until it is played for the first time, while the owners of the power remain a secret until they play the power, or if they decide to trade it in for hidden immunity idol which would be revealed publicly.
